Cookies and trackers

Oukonjou sets no analytics or advertising cookies. Here is what the site saves in your browser, and why.

No tracking cookies

Oukonjou sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no social media trackers. Traffic is measured with Plausible Analytics, which works without cookies or personal data. The OpenFreeMap base map does not use cookies either.

That is why you do not see a consent banner.

Your browser's local storage

To be useful, the site saves a few pieces of information in your browser's local storage (localStorage). They stay on your device. The one exception: when you are signed in to the contributor area, your session token is sent with your requests to our servers, to identify you.

These items are strictly necessary for the service you ask for: keeping your favourites, keeping you signed in, saving a draft, showing the site in your language, remembering your settings. They are therefore exempt from consent.

What the site saves

  • Favourites: the facilities you have saved. Kept until you remove them or clear the site's data.
  • Contributor session: after you sign in with the link sent by email, a token that identifies you, with your email address and its expiry date. Valid for 30 days. Signing out or deleting your account removes it straight away.
  • Suggestion draft: if you start suggesting a facility, the fields you have filled in and the location you chose, without the photos, so you do not lose them. Kept on your device until you send the suggestion, then deleted. The “Suggest a facility here” button on the map also saves the spot you were looking at, just long enough to open the form.
  • Language: French or English, so the right version opens next time.
  • Theme: light or dark, if you picked one.
  • Search and display preferences: for example the facility types you filtered on and the map layers you turned on (defibrillators, drinking water, cycle lanes).

Apart from the session token, which recognises you in the contributor area, none of this is used to identify you. None of it is used to follow you on other websites.

What about location?

The “Near me” feature saves nothing. Your browser asks for permission, then your position is used only to find nearby facilities, on your device. It is neither sent nor stored. You can withdraw this permission in your browser settings.

In the “Suggest a facility” form, the “Use my location” button only places the pin. The position is sent only if you send the suggestion, as the facility's location.

Links to other websites

Links to other websites (data sources, OpenStreetMap, directions apps) are plain links: Oukonjou sets no cookie when you click them. The website you open may use its own cookies, which fall under its own policy.

Clearing this data

You can delete the data saved by Oukonjou at any time in your browser settings, under site data or cookies. Your favourites and preferences will be lost. You will also be signed out of the contributor area and your suggestion draft will be deleted. Private browsing also clears this data when you close the window.
