What we accept
Oukonjou lists sports facilities that are free to use. We follow the definition used by France's official Data ES database: a facility open to everyone, permanently (not enclosed), where people can play sport even without supervision. For example, a skatepark or a basketball or football pitch open 24/7.
You can suggest a facility that meets these conditions:
- it matches one of the site's facility types;
- it is in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Andorra or Monaco;
- it is free, with no booking, registration or membership;
- it exists today and can be used.
A facility in a public park that closes at night can be suggested: give the posted opening hours in the description. We decide case by case.
What we decline
- Private facilities: residential complexes, businesses, campsites or hotels reserved for residents or guests, school playgrounds closed to the public.
- Clubs and paid facilities: members only, entry fee, compulsory booking.
- Facilities that are gone or closed for good, even if they still show on an old map.
- Approximate locations: the town centre, a street address only, “somewhere in the park”.
- Duplicates: check the map first to make sure the facility is not already there.
- Off-topic content: advertising, personal contact details, offensive remarks.
- Swimming spots and trailheads: they only come from official sources (bathing water monitoring, routes published by parks and départements), for your safety.
Giving an accurate location
The GPS location is required, and it is the first thing we check. It must point to the facility itself, not the park entrance or the car park.
- On site: stand in the middle of the facility, then tap “Use my location”.
- Check the accuracy shown: if it is low, wait a few seconds or move the pin by hand.
- From home: zoom in as far as you can on the form's map and place the pin in the middle of the facility.
- With a map link: paste a Google Maps, Apple Maps or OpenStreetMap link that contains the facility's coordinates. You can also type in the latitude and longitude.
- With a photo: take a photo on site with location turned on in your camera. The form reads its position and offers to use it.
Other details
The facility type and the town help us file your suggestion. Everything else is optional, but it speeds up the check:
- the name, if it has one (for example the park's name);
- lighting, surface and wheelchair access;
- a description: number of hoops or features, posted opening hours, access;
- a supporting link, for example the town hall page that presents the facility.
Wheelchair access feeds the Wheelchair-accessible facilities page: only report it if you have seen it for yourself. If you are not sure, choose “I don't know”: it is more useful than a guess.
Photo tips
You can add up to 3 photos. They are optional, but they speed up the check.
- Take a wide shot that shows the whole facility.
- Photograph the sign or rules posted at the entrance, if there are any: they often give the opening hours and who runs the place.
- Turn on location in your camera: the photo's position helps us confirm the spot.
- Do not photograph people or number plates. Wait until the facility is empty or frame the shot differently.
- Only send photos you took yourself, in JPEG, PNG or WebP format.
Photos are only used for checking. They are never published and are deleted after the decision.
After you send your suggestion
- Check: the site's administrator reviews every suggestion by hand, comparing the location with aerial imagery, looking at your photos, consulting the sources and searching for a duplicate.
- Timing: it usually takes To complete: usual review time. You can follow the status of your suggestions in My account.
- Decision: you receive an email. If your suggestion is declined, the email gives a short reason. You can correct it and send it again.
- Publication: the approved facility appears on the map within the hour, or by the next update at the latest, marked “Verified contribution”. Your email address is never published.
Before publishing, we may correct the location, type or name if the check calls for it.
In France: the official declaration
In France, Article L.312-2 of the French Sports Code (Code du sport) requires every owner of a sports facility to declare it to the authorities for the national census. This is done online at equipements.sports.gouv.fr, under “Déclarez votre équipement” (declare your facility).
If you represent a local authority or the facility's owner, use this official form first: it feeds the Data ES database, which Oukonjou and other services reuse. A suggestion on Oukonjou does not replace this declaration.
Outside France, you can also add the facility to OpenStreetMap.
Your commitment
By sending a suggestion, you confirm that the facility is free to use and that your information is accurate. You agree that the published information (not the photos) is distributed under the ODbL open licence and may be offered to OpenStreetMap.
The number of suggestions is limited per address. An account that sends false or abusive suggestions may be blocked. The full framework is in the terms of use.
