Why Oukonjou
A skatepark, a multisport court, a ping-pong table or a fitness trail is often a few minutes from your door. Yet these free facilities are hard to find: map apps rarely show them well, and council websites do not always list them.
The data exists, public and open. Oukonjou brings it together on a simple map, designed for your phone first, so you can find somewhere to play in seconds.
The site covers six French-speaking or neighbouring countries: France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Andorra and Monaco.
How it works
- Official and community data: France's national Data ES database, local open data and OpenStreetMap elsewhere, plus suggestions from users, checked one by one. Everything is listed on the Sources and licences page.
- Everything you need around the facility: each card shows the nearest defibrillator, drinking water and toilets, today's weather and air quality, and the sunset time. For outdoor trips, there are swimming spots with their water quality, climbing crags, orienteering courses and official trailheads.
- Automatic monthly updates, based on the latest version of each source. Facilities suggested by users appear shortly after they are approved.
- No comments and no public profiles: the site sticks to what matters, where the facility is and what you can do there. An account is only used to suggest facilities.
- Email alerts if you want to know when a new facility appears in your towns. Sign up on the Alerts page, unsubscribe in one click.
- A page on accessibility: the Wheelchair-accessible facilities page brings together the facilities reported as such.
The community
Know a facility that is missing from the map? You can suggest it with a free account, no password needed.
Every suggestion is checked one by one before it is published: we compare the location with aerial imagery, your photos and the available sources. Once approved, the facility appears on the map marked “Verified contribution”. Your email address and photos are never published.
The published information can be reused under an open licence and may be offered to OpenStreetMap, so your contribution helps everyone. The contribution guidelines explain what we accept and how to give an accurate location.
What Oukonjou is not
- Not an official site: Oukonjou is independent. It has no connection with ministries, local authorities or sports federations.
- Not a booking service: the facilities listed are free to use. You turn up, you play, you make room for the next people.
- Not a guarantee: the information is for guidance only. Check access, opening hours and condition on site.
The name
Oukonjou is French for “where do we play?”, spelled the way it sounds. Written out, it would be “Où qu'on joue ?”, the question friends ask each other before heading out with a ball, a board or a set of boules.
The wink is in the spelling: a word you read out loud, closer to the playground than to a directory. The site is there to answer that question.
Free and independent
Oukonjou is free and will stay free. It shows no advertising, has no commercial links and sells no data. Nobody can pay to change a listing or rank higher: the order and content of the data depend only on the sources and on our checks. Details about your data are in the privacy policy.
